HIDEVA

HIDEVA is the acronym of the association "Historiadores Dominicos pro V Centenario de la Evangelización de América’".
It was constituted at the first meeting held by the association in Madrid on February 19, 1984. Its main objective was to spread the historical legacy of the Dominicans throughout the history of Spain and Latin America.
One of its big projects was the composition of the "Diccionario enciclopédico hispano-americano-filipino de la Orden de Predicadores (1492-1992)". Fr. José Barrado OP, began to compile the bibliographical entries that were to be used to compile the dictionary.
Finally, the dictionary was never published, but the files have become part of the documentary collection of the Historical Institute, which wants to make them available to researchers.
The HIDEVA files have been divided into three groups: "Dominican friars", "Dominican cloistered nuns, tertiaries and female congregations" and "Institutions". For each one, an excel has been created with all the names in alphabetical order and a link to consult the PDF where they can be found. Currently the collections of "Dominican Friars" and "Women's Congregations" are only partially available as they are currently being revised. To facilitate research, all the PDFs provided are searchable.
