Working for a new approach in the history of the religious orders: Barcelona 27th November 2024

On November 27th a seminary titled Nuevas tendencias historiográficas para el estudio de las órdenes religiosas (II), organized by the Historical Institute of the Province of Spain alongside other entities such as the Pontificia Università di Santo Tomasso d'Aquino (PUST), the Facultat d'Història i Arts cristianes Antoni Gaudí (FHEAG) and the Grup de Recerca d'Estudis d'Història Cultural (GREHC) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, was held at the Ateneu Universitari Sant Pacià in Barcelona. The seminary wanted to tackle the issue about the necessary revision of the historical and historiographical sources for a new approach to the Church's history and become a space of dialogue between the ponents and participants.
In this occasion five sessions were held which were about liturgy as a historical source, the evaluation and sources for the Contemporary History of the Church, the necessary historiographical revisitation of the figure of the Papacy at the end of the 19th century and the feminine testimony in the construction of history. The last session was dedicated to a round table about ecclesiastical archives in Catalonia. The reason behind this seminary was to announce the new location of the historical archive of the monastery of Dominican friars of Montesión of Barcelona, donated to the province of Hispania at the beginning of 2024, and that can be consulted at the headquarters of the Institute in the convent of Barcelona.
