The AUSP hosts a seminar on Dominican chronicles in the printing workshop
AUSP, January 2026. Under the title "The Dominican Chronicles in the Printing Workshop: Editorial Strategies in the Modern World", a new seminar was held on the 27th of January, organised by the Historical Institute of the Order of Preachers of the Province of Hispania, the AUSP and various research groups linked to the UAB and the bibliographic heritage, which took place at the Antoni Gaudí Faculty of History, Archaeology and Christian Arts.
This seminar was a continuation of the one held in 2025, which was dedicated to Dominican books and libraries in the Modern Age. On this occasion, the Dominican chronicles, the printing workshop and the editorial strategies of the Order of Preachers in the modern world were discussed. The papers were delivered by Fr. Alejandro J. López Ribao (AUSP), who spoke about a series of chronicles that were never printed: "Failed attempts and institutional censorship: the history of the Province of Spain by Friar Tomás de Aróstegui"; Pedro Rueda Ramírez (UB. InterCultural), who entitled his talk: "American Chronicles and the Geopolitics of the Dominicans' Missional Editorial Work in Peru"; Anna Busquets Alemany (UOC. REDIF), who addressed the topic: "Fixing China on Paper: Dominican Chronicles between Mission, Printing and Publishing"; and Domenico Ciccarello (University of Palermo), who spoke on "Tommaso Fazello (1498–1570) and the Different Editions of His History of Sicily".
The event was attended by around fifty participants; half of them from Latin America, who followed it via the live stream. One of the seminar's objectives was precisely to try to establish contacts with countries in Latin America, especially for doctoral studies in Chile, Colombia and Mexico. For Dr Alejandro López Ribao, Vice-Dean of the Antoni Gaudí Faculty and organiser of the seminar, "this event has been very positive, as it has been a success for research into the history of the Church in Catalonia".
