The 10th congress of Dominican history highlights the legacy of the Rosary in Andalucia

The 10th edition of the Dominican History Congress of the former province of Betica took place on October 26th of 2024, in the town's hall of La Palma del Condado (Huelva). The Sociedad Andaluza de Estudios Domincanos, with the sponsorship of the Hermandad de la Santa Cruz de la calle Bano y Nuestra Señora del Rosario of this town and in collaboration of the city council, has made possible a new scientific meeting for the better knowledge of the Order of Preachers and its legacy in these lands at the south of Spain.
The main topic of this congress is the Holy Rosary, one of the major institutional and devotional pillars of the Order of Preachers. The Rosary as we know today is the result of a long history of priar, devotion, associationism, as well as one of a very interesting iconography that has left a mark in the history of Catholicism since the Middle Ages up to today. Even with monastic precedents of capital importance, the Order of Preachers is who gives the present structure to the Rosary and, most importantly, its popular and missional character. In this sense, the Dominican Confraternity and, at a later date, the diocesean fraternities have given to the Rosary its singular protagonism in Andalucia.
